What is BIM, and what opportunities does the BIM workflow create? This BIM fundamentals course provides a comprehensive overview of Building Information Modeling. In addition to explaining key terms, the course introduces various models for collaboration and communication. You will gain insight into potential BIM use cases and learn about the relevant norms, documents, and standards. Practical examples will demonstrate how BIM projects are organized and executed. You will also receive information on the industry's international development and discover the advantages, disadvantages, and—above all—the opportunities offered by the digitalization of construction.
In this course, you will learn about the principles that must be observed during data exchange and gain an overview of the wide range of software applications used in BIM projects. The course explains which programs are compatible with one another and which file formats are suitable for open versus native collaboration. We also examine data structuring, ranging from the high-level structure of model partitioning to the granular organization found in classification systems. Finally, you will learn how data is transferred within Open BIM and Closed BIM environments and understand the requirements for data exchange in BIM projects.
Part 1 of EN ISO 19650 defines concepts and principles for the organization of data regarding built assets and for information management using BIM. The standard outlines overarching structures and processes for handling information and defining requirements. It serves as an excellent guide for the systematic planning and organization of BIM projects.
The IFC standard, developed by buildingSMART International, is used to logically represent building structures and their associated properties. IFC serves as a software-independent interface for data exchange in BIM projects. This course explains the key considerations for data exchange using IFC. It also defines common terms associated with IFC and examines the structure, organization, application areas, and versions of this international standard in detail. You will learn how to use an IFC model viewer and navigate the IFC structure, enabling you to make optimal use of the contained information in practice.
